SUBJECT: Six Hour Stand-off with Fugitive Ends in Arrest

On August 30th, 2021, members of the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force developed information that Larry J. Ames, 49, was a house on Evansville’s east side. Ames was wanted on warrants stemming from  his arrest out of Vanderburgh County for Burglary and Firearms Violations, which were a result of Ames allegedly exchanging gunfire with an another subject approximately one months ago.  Ames was also known to have an extensive violent criminal history, which included numerous state and federal firearms convictions.  The home’s occupants voluntarily exited the home, but Ames refused to comply. The Evansville Police Department SWAT Team assisted deputies in a nearly six hour stand-off before Ames finally surrendered.
